A ‘Whiteheadian’ concept describing the dichotomy we have within us between the world of facts and the world of values. We tend to believe that values are subjective and facts are objective. Whitehead believed that there is no true division between them and attempted to overcome this dualism by iterating that feeling, consciousness, and subjectivity are inherent. Thus assigning intrisic value outside the subjective labelling of value that may be projected upon any organism.
The lake, a person, a soil sample, mycorhhizal network, etc. are actualized value. They are important, beautiful, alive, they count, they are not inert stuff, they are bristling with vitality and value.
