[[@Thomas Berry]] coined the term to describe our time of ecological crisis and how it will be with us long term. It has also been called the **'Anthropocene Epoch'**. The Cenozoic era began 65 million years ago with the extinction of the dinosaurs. Today, the Cenozoic era ends with another mass extinction. But unlike previous eras, this one includes a species that could stop it from happening or at least slow it down. It's the least we could do, since we started the mass extinction to begin with.
