Most of the herbals I modernize are in a version of English that I am comfortable with modernizing. There is a significant drop off in English intelligibility before the 1300’s as it falls off into Old English. These herbals and herbals in other historical languages (Latin, Old French etc.) would require a different workflow. I do deviate from the workflow included below and I will modernize completely by hand. It really depends on the complexity of the text and how usages of certain words have changed over time. The important thing is, I only modernize historical texts from my herbal traditions (Traditional Western Herbalism, Plant Spirit Herbalism) or that I have studied to some extent (Galenic / Humoral Herbalism).
