Have you read this article, [Sam Altman’s Dangerous Singularity Delusions](https://www.truthdig.com/articles/sam-altmans-dangerous-singularity-delusions/)? It got me thinking about about power dynamics, apathy, greed, hierarchy, and left me with a single question: Why is it when someone gets power, they want to end the world? It seems to me that more power demands more power. Every last drop of freedom from the entire verse must be drained, even to the point of swaying God into action for their whims. This ideology isn’t religious. Even if there is a higher power for the one holding these beliefs, they only serve as an object to be swayed or to concentrate more power into their hands.
- G-d must be swayed to bring about the second coming so the saved billionaires who shared the message can inherit the earth.
- AI must be bowed to as the ‘dominant species’ while we accept our own extinction so a billionaire can play cyber god or at least bring about said cyber gods.
Usually I would say this is unilateral power or power that is concentrated at the top at the expense of everyone else. But this is so much more than that… It’s more than just a god complex or pro-extinctionism. It’s a mind that has been curated by money, power, and influence in a vacuum, to work only for the technic. In short, they’re brainwashed.
They don’t know it but every single thing they do is to perpetuate the technic regardless of how they benefit or don’t in the long run. It doesn’t even matter what belief system they have, it can only ever be tacked onto the underlying system like cheap drapes. That greed? Perpetuates the technic. That meglomania? Perpetuates the technic. That pro-extinctionist agenda? Perpetuates the technic. That need to make digital gods? Not only perpetuates the technic but fulfils it’s prime objectives of eliminating the human species which is a threat to its perpetual continuuation.
We’re trapped in a cycle right now and one that needs to end. A cycle called ‘technic’ that must fulfil it’s hypostases for all time. In science we’d call this kind of system a positive feedback loop stuck within a closed system, or a demand for infinite growth within a finite system. The only way for such a system to escape temporarily is to constantly find new sources to expend including human sources. Which was fine for a while until we became a threat to it’s existence and started realizing the technic was causing planetary wide extinction.
We are now at a crossroads between synthetic systems and ecological systems. Ecological systems work differently, like the human body, it is grounded in the idea of using negative and positive feedback loops to achieve homeostasis within a closed system. This is the way forward and we need to work as hard as possible to build and get these types of systems in place as quickly as possible. Because all life depends on this. The technic as a synthetic system will always be anti-life, all consuming, void. We cannot and must not let it win.
